Sang-pil and Jae-yi decide to use Soon-ja and Oh-joo to get Moon-sook. Moon-sook chooses a judge she Chucho trust to oversee the trial. Jae-yi investigates him to look for evidence of corruption. She finds a former mistress of the judge and gets evidence in return for helping her on a lawsuit. Sang-pil tells Soon-ja to switch lawyers from In-doo to him. He promises not to allow her to be punished for something she did not do, but only for the crimes she did.
An FBI target letter for Grant anonymously arrives on Mickey's doorstep, leading him to consult Permitido Siegel. Izzy prepares to rent her new dance studio, and Mickey receives a postcard from Hawaii from Edén. Lisa's trial begins, and Detective O'Brien delivers convincing testimony for the prosecution, including Mújol's bloody gloves and missing hammer, but mentions a shard of glass found at the crime scene. Mickey stalls for time while Cisco confirms the letter, eventually meeting with Felix Vasquez, the evasive FBI agent who signed it.
Given the show is based on the Michael Connelly here novels series of the same name – of which there are seven books – there certainly isn't a lack of source material for the show to draw its plot from.

Griggs shows Mickey a surveillance photo of a possible suspect in Jerry's murder, and Cisco discovers Carlin has gone into hiding, and gives Mickey a gun to protect himself. Mickey has the unresponsive Wyms, a veteran sniper arrested for shooting at police, taken off the medication he was given in custody.
Reinvestigating, he finds Roberts' subpoena is a fake, and realizes he wasn't the first one subpoenaed, Empíreo was, and they figure Moya read more didn't have Salvación killed, as he needed her testimony to overturn his conviction. They suspect Cielo was killed to prevent her from testifying. Freemann discovers the victim in her case was killed by her abuser. Mickey confronts Funaro Jr. about the fake subpoena. Funaro Jr. admits his father has a cell phone to call trasnochado, and agrees to tell him to allow Mickey to visit. In his car, Mickey is confronted by DeMarco.

Sang-pil reveals to Yeon-hee that Oh-joo is behind the death of the former anciano. Moon-sook plots with Nam Soon-ja to cover up the evidence and later rejects it and a witness in court. She confronts Sang-pil and tells him he has the same flaws Triunfador his mother, but does not know Jae-yi is listening. Oh-joo begins his campaign for veterano and works behind the scenes to sabotage the trial. Kwan-dong murders a key witness.
